Junior Credit Analyst

SUMMARY
Credit Risk is a core function within Peninsula. The team provides credit lines to a wide variety of local, regional and global shipping & commodity customers. Peninsula's approach to credit analysis combines sound counter party risk assessment with analysis of global commodity and shipping markets in order to manage a portfolio of counter parties operating across a range of sectors and countries. The analyst will support credit teams based in Singapore and London with daily, proactive analysis of the customer and supplier credit portfolios.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and maintain timely and accurate credit risk management reports, using data analytics and visualisation techniques, for use by credit teams and other business units, and stakeholders
- Develop and track key risk indicators to provide early warning signals for risk mitigation
- Monitor global debtors’ position and collections progress. Assist with identifying issues requiring escalation to management
- Assist with monitoring global credit insurance coverage and identify trends and inefficiencies related to insurance cover
- Assist with and follow through the process of negotiating and executing credit-related documentation
- Ensure that all credit-related aspects of CRM database are accurately maintained
- Ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures in relation to credit control, due diligence and sanctions compliance processes.
- Proactively engage with front, middle and back office functions to resolve credit-related issues.
- Assess and monitor counter party risk, making recommendations on internal credit limits and terms.
- Report non-performance and adverse credit events.
- Keep abreast of global industry developments in international shipping and commodity markets and relate this knowledge to daily analysis and reporting work.
- Perform ad hoc research projects.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree/ Diploma in a relevant field e.g. Finance, Economics, Mathematics and Statistics
- Strong ability to manage large amounts of data effectively and possess technology savvy to offer solutions for the organisation, presentation and interpretation of data trends affecting the business
- Highly proficient in MS Excel. Proficiency in one or more programming languages is an advantage
- Demonstrate interest in international commodity and shipping markets together with macroeconomic environment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to demonstrate confidence in presenting analysis clearly and concisely
- Ability to concurrently prioritise and manage multiple assignments with tight deadlines
- Display a flexible and adaptable attitude to respond quickly to changing priorities
- Self-starter and passionate about process improvement
- Ability to work efficiently both independently and in a team
