Price Risk Management Trader

DEPARTMENT/TEAM: Supply & Trading

The Risk Management Trader has several responsibilities including market analysis, business development, trade strategy, and trade execution. The Risk Management Trader is required to create new business opportunities, quote and monitor contracts (fixed and floating), and manage the price risk of several trading books within their region by working closely with the Supply and Sales teams. This role would suit someone with previous experience in Bunker/Physical Trading and Risk Management.


  • Develop trading plans to best hedge the company’s exposure
  • Leverage from the company exposure and market structure to generate additional P&L
  • Maintain own exposure of trading book within limits and DOAs
  • Provide Physical book exposure analysis to head of team
  • Review physical arb opportunities basis position with differentials and time spreads
  • Liaise with Physical Manager to maximize price risk strategy considering operational efficiency
  • Liaise with Cargo team to optimize purchasing strategy
  • Physical books P&L movement Analysis
  • Differential analysis /percentile analysis
  • Fundamental/technical Analysis and News
  • Be the main point of contact for product control re P&L movements understanding
  • Month End Reconciliation (with execution desk) with Product Control on Realised P&L –HD & SPEU
  • Controlling Intraday and Overnight Exposures under all physical and HD books
  • Manage Carbon exposures in all books
  • Optimize Physical books using Smart Trading techniques
  • Provide Hedging instruments liquidity for external counterparts
  • Quarterly physical books hedging performance and real P&L
  • Develop partnership with Supply Desks & IDS to optimise physical stocks




  • Business level English
  • Confident individual with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Persuasive and influential by nature, a highly effective negotiator able to ‘think on their feet’
  • High level of ownership and accountability
  • Ability to swiftly express key information to facilitate line manager / Regional Head decision making
  • High level of commercial acumen, able to think analytically and strategically and understand the wider business context
  • Able to work collaboratively as part of a team and towards shared goals but equally able to work independently with a minimal level of supervision
  • Ambitious, self-motivated, and demonstrating a willingness to continually develop own knowledge and skills
  • High level of computer literacy including proficiency of MS Office package and able to work with CRM systems
  • Risk management skills, understanding price risk, basis risk, and other risks and how to manage
  • Knowledge of the physical oil markets, particularly bunker fuel grades
