Peninsula Japan marks 15 years of trusted partnership and steady growth

Our long-term commitment to customers, and the evolving maritime energy sector.

Peninsula celebrates 15 years in Tokyo

Peninsula is marking 15 years since the establishment of its Japan office, an achievement that reflects the company’s long-term commitment to one of the world’s most important maritime markets.

Peninsula’s connection to Japan began long before the opening of its Tokyo office, through relationships with local shipowners and growing engagement with the market. The establishment of Peninsula Japan 15 years ago marked a clear step forward: a commitment to be present locally, build trust over time and support customers with the consistency and service for which Peninsula is known.

Since then, Peninsula Japan has developed into a well-established operation, supported by the wider strength of the group’s international network. Its growth over the past decade and a half reflects not only the importance of the Japanese market, but also the value placed locally on reliability, long-term thinking and high standards of service.

Today, Peninsula is recognised as the largest non-Japanese bunker trading house in Japan, a position built over many years through steady performance, cultural understanding and strong customer relationships.

In a market where trust is earned over time, service remains a defining factor. Peninsula Japan has built a strong reputation for supporting customers beyond the transaction, with a hands-on and responsive approach that reflects both local expectations and the group’s broader service ethos.

Japan also continues to play an important role in the maritime energy transition, and Peninsula remains committed to supporting customers as the market evolves. Through its work across conventional and alternative marine fuels, Peninsula Japan continues to contribute to long-term discussions around the future of shipping energy.

“For us, the most important thing has always been to build trust carefully and consistently, while understanding what customers in Japan truly value in a long-term partner,” said Alonso Young, General Manager, Japan, Head of Business Development.

“This anniversary is a moment to reflect on those relationships with gratitude, and to look ahead with the same commitment that has guided us for the past 15 years.”

The anniversary also coincides with Peninsula’s 30th year globally, linking the success of the Japan office to the wider story of a business built on long-term partnerships, operational strength and local presence in key maritime markets around the world.

As Peninsula Japan marks this milestone, the business looks ahead with confidence, proud of the relationships built so far and committed to continuing its journey in Japan for years to come.
