1996
Foundations in marine energy
Peninsula was founded in Gibraltar in 1996 to meet a clear operational need in one of the world’s busiest bunkering hubs. From the outset, the business was built on deep marine energy expertise and strong local knowledge, building trust through reliability, responsiveness and close working relationships with vessel operators. Those early years established a principle that still holds today: customer services forges strong and lasting relationships.
2001
Building a global commercial network
As customer demand expanded beyond Gibraltar, Peninsula grew its commercial footprint through locally based teams in key markets. Growth followed customer need and service capability, combining global reach with on-the-ground understanding of ports, regulations and operating conditions. This period shaped Peninsula’s approach to expansion, prioritising consistency and service over speed.

2012
Expanding into physical supply
By 2012, consistent delivery at scale required greater control over how fuel was sourced, handled and delivered. Peninsula expanded into physical supply, moving beyond trading into terminal tank leasing, storage and blending. This marked a shift from a trading-led model to an operating business with tangible assets and direct oversight of key stages in the supply chain.
2018
Integration and accountability
As operations grew in scale and complexity, Peninsula focused on integration. Physical supply, trading, logistics, shipping, quality and risk functions were brought closer together to reduce handovers and strengthen accountability. Customers increasingly dealt with a single organisation able to manage the full operational picture, even as fuel specifications, regulations and market conditions evolved.

2026
Prepared for the next phase
Today, as Peninsula marks 30 years in marine energy, the business operates across hundreds of ports worldwide, supplying conventional fuels, LNG and biofuels while developing future fuel capability. That growth has been deliberate, with new locations, assets and services added only where quality, risk and delivery could be controlled. The same discipline now shapes how Peninsula approaches the energy transition. The focus is on operational readiness, asset investment and regulatory understanding, ensuring the business remains resilient and able to support customers through the next phase of change.
